Project Description

Kilmorie Primary School is an inclusive, vibrant community committed to enabling their pupils to be successful citizens with a great love for learning. The school environment is safe, exciting and welcoming to their children and families. The curriculum at Kilmorie Primary School is broad, rich, immersive and purposeful. They encourage their children to be independent, innovative and curious learners. As well as academic success they strive to develop the children’s emotional intelligence and their empathy for others.

The Challenge

Kilmorie Primary School had their main entrance gate since the 60’s and as well as looking to have a new one, they wanted to change the format. It was just one large gate that opened and closed electronically and they wanted to make it two gates, one for the pedestrian access and the other to open for vehicles and children leaving at the end of the day. Due to cost constraints, the same gate mechanism was to be re-used which had certain restraints on the final solution.

The Solution

Kilmorie Primary School and the existing gates lacked any reference to the school identity. Pylon Design felt this was an ideal opportunity to have some gates that reflected the schools brand and give them a strong presence. In conjunction with a gate company, Pylon Design developed a new overall format before we proposed colours and graphics to be used on the gates. Using the circle elements from the logo, these were positioned in different sizes and colours within the gate area to create a colourful, fun approach. The logo and name were used large to give the school an identity and applied using coloured vinyl film. The final solution has given Kilmorie Primary School a presence, an identity and a fun appearance befitting of an outstanding Primary School.
