From the school’s humble beginnings in a room above the Town Hall in Clacton-on-Sea to its grand opening in their current, stately home, Holland Park School has rightly maintained a proud reputation in the local community.
As the school moves into a new era, their vision is that all the children at Holland Park Primary achieve exceptionally well, have lots of fun and develop a lifelong passion for learning. They believe in an education which is holistic, equitable, empowering, nurturing and liberating for all members of the school and the local and wider community. This is achieved through a determined dedication to serve, through self-belief, through effective collaboration with others and is sustained by mutual trust and transparent accountability at all levels.
The school had suffered a static html site for 15 years and were tied into an external agency who performed any content updates for the school. The client wanted to take control and manage the content updates themselves and move to a database-driven, content managed solution.
The new site integrates a well promoted MailChimp subscriber list, blog subscriptions, a news ticker and upcoming events to the homepage to keep parents well informed of school life. Particular attention was paid to making class pages and surrounding content relevant to the class/year group and hence a focal point for existing parents visiting the site. As well as all school correspondence being centralised to a single location, it is simultaneously distributed to relevant additional positions site-wide.
By using the school colours, consistent, strong typography and the creation of a set of illustrations of school pupil characters, Pylon Design have developed a smart and professional, yet playful site. The school website administrators were trained by Pylon Design and they themselves have now delegated much of the news content creation to the teaching staff. This has a positive impact on parental engagement as the school news posted on the website is reposted automatically to the school’s social channels and sent out as a weekly news digest via email.
